A total of 13 trees were analyzed to pose threats to the corridor within NPS boundaries. These trees include; standing dead wood, major overhangs that would result in over 25% of the tree crown removal, storm damage, decay, and direct growth into power line.
The work will be undertaken by PEPCO/contractors. A special use permit will be issued to govern all work and access within NPS jurisdiction. Lower growing species will not be removed or trimmed.
The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #C.3 – Routine maintenance and repairs to non-historic structures, facilities, utilities, grounds, and trails.
The project also meets the National Historic Preservation Act/Section 106 Programmatic Agreement, Streamlined Review Criteria #5 – Routine Grounds Maintenance, and #9 – Maintenance or Replacement of Non-Historic Utility Lines, Transmission Lines, and Fences.
