Glacier National Park is proposing to remove an abandoned weir on lower Rose Creek and replace the Rose Creek Bridge. The weir is a barrier to the upstream migration of native fish, including bull trout, and the long-term structural stability of the bridge is is threatened by sediment scouring. The concrete slab foundation at the Rose Creek Bridge also blocks fish passage during periods of low flow and has altered the way sediments naturally move through the lower stream channel. The bridge is also not compatible with the historic design characteristics of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, a National Historic Landmark.
