Through this project, the City of McGehee and its Industrial Foundation will create an interpretive facility for the "Against Our Will" exhibit, which was created by the Rockefeller Foundation and focuses on the history of the Jerome and Rohwer camps. Currently, the exhibit is held in storage by the Delta Cultural Heritage Commission in Helena, Arkansas. Recognizing the urgency in providing a home for this $2+ million exhibit, the City of McGehee will restore and renovate the south building of the historic railroad depot in McGehee as exhibit display space. The depot is on the National Register of Historic Places and is located 17 miles from Jerome and 11 miles from Rohwer, providing for a central location for people to visit the former camps by car. To make sure the exhibit receives proper treatment prior to public display, the project will restore parts of the exhibit that have deteriorated while in storage. The City of McGehee will work with local schools, the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, and the National Park Service to publicize their newly restored exhibit and facility via websites, visitor centers, and educational field trips.
