The current exhibits were installed in the 1960s as part of the National Park Service's Mission 66 project, and are well beyond their intended lifespan. This project is funded through entrance fee revenue, and is an investment the park is excited to make for visitor enjoyment.
"This is an exciting opportunity to create exhibits that tell the story of our extensive and varied landscapes. Lodgepole is not only a popular place for campers, but also a starting point for wilderness trips," said Colleen Bathe, Chief of Interpretation, Education, and Partnerships. "We envision exhibits that engage people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds."
The project is a collaboration between Sequoia and Kings Canyon, exhibit planners from the National Park Service's Harpers Ferry Center, and the Sequoia Parks Conservancy. Tribal partners have also been involved in the development of themes for the exhibits, and will continue to provide input throughout the project.
