Dear Interested Party:

Thank you for your interest in the planning process for the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System. The National Park Service has prepared an environmental assessment for the Comprehensive River Management Plan developed by the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System Advisory Management Committee. The environmental assessment is now available for your review and comment. This document analyzes two alternatives for future management of the river system. The preferred alternative (alternative B) is the river management plan developed by the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System Advisory Management Committee. This environmental assessment provides compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.

Alternative A would continue current management efforts in the Wekiva River System. The agencies involved, including those on the advisory management committee, would continue to manage the river system according to existing management strategies and policies for each agency. Although this is the "no-action" alternative required by the National Environmental Policy Act, it does not imply or direct the discontinuation of any existing programs or services that are beneficial to the resources or recreational opportunities.

Alternative B, the NPS preferred alternative, would be an integrated program of goals, objectives, and actions for protecting each outstandingly remarkable value previously identified for the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System. Alternative B is the comprehensive river management plan developed by the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System Advisory Management Committee. The committee's plan is summarized in Chapter 2 of the environmental assessment.

An electronic copy of the environmental assessment is posted on this website and will be on public review for one month. You may comment online at this website or send written comments to the address below.
