Swikshak Cabin Replacement
Katmai National Park & Preserve » Swikshak Cabin Replacement » Document List
The cabin is located in designated Wilderness on a peninsula between Swikshak Bay and the Swikshak River lagoon. The lagoon can be accessed from the sea by boat or float plane near high tide periods. The coastal portion of the peninsula can be accessed by wheeled plane (beach landings) when tidal conditions are sufficient.
The existing cabin, outhouse, and sauna ruins would be demolished and removed. A new cabin and outhouse would be constructed in the same area. Materials, supplies, and labor would originate from Kodiak and would be transported by barge. Cabin replacement activities would occur during the summer of 2010.
An environmental assessment (EA) has been developed to describe and analyze the impacts of the project. The EA is available for public review and comment through March 3, 2010.
