Expand Climate Monitoring Network and Upgrade Radio Communication System

Here for your review is an environmental assessment (EA) in which the National Park Service is considering the expansion of the remote automated weather station (RAWS) network and adding one radio communications repeater in Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and at one site on nearby Tongass National Forest lands at Goat Lake. The proposed action would expand the climate monitoring program by establishing four additional stations to collect basic climatological data including air and soil temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and snow depth. The installation of all four proposed stations will be phased and not completed until after the 2012 summer season. The data will be available to the public in near real-time (or archived versions) over the Internet.
