The McCauley Saw Mill burned during the 1990 fires that swept through the Foresta area. The foundation and iron components of the saw mill equipment remain. No vegetation will be disturbed during the project. The sawmill equipment will remain as close to its functional location as possible. The Historic Preservation Shop will prepare photo documentation to meet the 1999 Programmatic Agreement Standard Mitigation Measures 1(a), and catalog according to N.P.S. archival digital standards. The Museum Branch has no interest in archiving the equipment at this time. The Museum Branch as well as the History, Architecture and Landscapes (HAL) Branch does not recommend moving the equipment. Consultation with the HAL Branch concluded that constructing a protective structure would be inappropriate for the landscape and attract unwanted attention.
