Langlade County Ice Age NST Corridor Plan and Environmental Assessment

Ice Age National Scenic Trail » Langlade County Ice Age NST Corridor Plan and Environmental Assessment » Document List

We are pleased to announce that the National Park Service, the Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has prepared a Corridor Plan for the completion of Ice Age National Scenic Trail (NST) in southern Langlade County. The process consists of identifying and mapping features of outstanding geologic, biologic, cultural, and scenic significance to the trail, and then defining wide study areas that encompass these features. This study area or "corridor of opportunity" represent the area within which the trail may be located. Currently, about 600 miles of the trail's anticipated 1,200 miles are complete and open to the public.

The Ice Age NST has been part of Langlade County's landscape since 1976. Because of the efforts of local chapter volunteers and cooperating private and public landowners, over 54 miles of the trail has been established from the northwest corner of the county to northeast of the community of Polar. The recently completed Corridor Plan will assist with effortst to complete the remaining portion of Ice Age NST through Langlade County and provide a connection to the trail in Marathon County.

Please note that all participation in the Ice Age Trail is voluntary.
