The National Park Service, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP, will be installing counters within the park to help provide a data base for park usage. This data collection will help park managers analyze which areas of the park are more heavily used. The data will support justification for funding requests and staffing requests.
The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #E.6 – Non- destructive data collection, inventory (including field, aerial, and satellite surveying and mapping), study, research, and monitoring activities (this is also a Departmental CE).
