Wawona Campground Road Repaving

This project will repave the existing paved roadway at Wawona Campground. The project will cover approximately 3/4 miles of the two-way main road and 1.0 mile of single lane one-way road. No work will be performed on the dirt pull-outs that provide access to individual campsites and work will be contained to within the existing road prisms. The means of repair will be one of two methods. Method one will install an asphalt overlay or chip seal with patching and sealing applied where necessary. The new road section will have a minimum 1" leveling coarse covered by a layer of oil and fabric, then a 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" overlay. Method two will remove the top 3" to 4" of the existing asphalt and base. 3" to 4" of base will be installed followed by 2" to 3" of asphalt overlay. For both option, a small shoulder of base material will be applied where needed for smooth transition.
PROPOSED PROJECT LIMITS:
The project limits include all paved lanes of the Wawona Campground Road, beginning at the entrance to the campground and ending in loop C.
PROPOSED TIME FRAME AND WORK SCHEDULE:
The plan is to award the contract this summer and commence work this fall and have the work completed by the end of October 2008. However, if contracting, weather, or traffic concerns are a problem then it may get delayed until 2009.
PROPOSED TRAFFIC CONTROL PLAN:
The project scope will require a traffic control plan be developed in coordination with the park traffic control, law enforcement, & maintenance staff.
PROPOSED STORM WATER POLLUTION & SPILL PREVENTION PLAN:
The proposed project scope requires a storm water plan and a spill prevention plan to be submitted and approved prior to commencing onsite work.
PROPOSED INVASIVE WEED CONTROL PLAN:
The proposed project scope requires that all contract equipment coming into the park be weed free and equipment will be inspected by either park vegetation staff or other approved personnel. It also requires submission and approval of proposed material sources to be used on the project.
PROPOSED STAGING AREAS:
The proposed staging areas are in loop A RV sites, seasonally closed loops, and other existing turnouts and parking areas within the project area.
