This project authorizes the Yosemite Hang Gliding Association to conduct activities associated with hang gliding, including launching, flying and landing of powerless hang gliders, within Yosemite National Park pursuant to the terms of a Special Use Permit issued by the park superintendent. All activities conducted under the terms of the Special Use Permit must be monitored by persons certified and designated for this purpose by the Yosemite Hang Gliding Association. Hang gliders will be permitted to launch from a site at Glacier Point that has been designated for this purpose, and to land only at the Leidig Meadow landing site, which has been designated accordingly. Launching, flying and/or landing in any area outside those specified in the Special Use Permit are not authorized. The activity is permitted for the dates of May 1 to October 1 of the permit year. Launching may take place only between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. daily, with no more than sixteen flights per day. Only advanced rated pilots are permitted to fly in Yosemite National Park. Tandem flights, aerobatic flights or paragliding are not allowed. Landing at the Leidig Meadow landing zone is allowed only between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., from May 1 to October 1 of the permit year. All hang gliding activities must adhere to rules and safety procedures of the United States Hang Gliding Association.
