VIP Project - Trail Repairs

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » VIP Project - Trail Repairs » Document List

The National Park Service, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, will coordinate volunteer projects in conjunction with the park's Canal Pride Days. Volunteers will undertake trail repairs in the Palisades district of the park.

The work will make repairs to existing trails and work will be conducted within the footprint of the trails. The work will address eroded/worn areas by rebuilding deteriorated trail steps and adding clean fill within these areas. Work to trails will be under the supervision of an approved trail maintenance expert. The areas for project work will be on trails in the Carderock area and the Lock 8 area.

All VIP projects will be coordinated and supervised by NPS staff.

The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #C.3 – Routine maintenance and repairs to non-historic structures, facilities, utilities, grounds, and trails.
