Flagpole Installation at Williamsport Visitor Center
Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » Flagpole Installation at Williamsport Visitor Center » Document List
The Eagle Scout prepared a project proposal to install a 25' flag pole next to the center green space between Trolley Barn and Cushwa Warehouse. Upon project review, this initial location for the flagpole was determined inaccessible due to underground utilities. An alternative site was selected, placing the flagpole near the northwest corner of the canal turning basin. Excavations were monitored by NPS staff during construction.
A site meeting on September 27, with park project review staff and the scout, determined that the flagpole should be aluminum to provide a maintenance free feature.
The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project did not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archaeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #C.5 – Installation of signs, displays, and kiosks.
