Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » Storage Shed Removal, Swain's Lock, Mile 16.6 » Document List

The National Park Service plans to remove non-historic structures located at Swain's Lock, mile 16.6 of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. These structures were constructed as part of a canoe operations concession, which is no longer in service. The structures identified for removal include a 23" x 59' tin sided and tin roofed building, canoe racks, fencing, etc. These structures are no longer in use and are falling into disrepair. These structures are not contributing to the cultural setting of Swain's lock.

The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #E.4 – Removal of non-historic materials and structures in order to restore natural conditions when the removal has no potential for environmental impacts, including impacts to cultural landscapes or archeological resources.
