East Yosemite Valley Campground Accessibility Improvements

This project will correct accessibility deficiencies at 11 campgrounds in East Yosemite Valley. The park currently has no sites that meet the United States Access Board guidelines for outdoor use areas. Sites to be improved include Lower Pines sites 7, 13, 14, 18, and 20, North Pines sites 111, 113, and 119, and Upper Pines sites 21, 27, and 42. The new sites will be improved per the following requirements:

1)All campsite accessibility upgrades shall fit into existing campsite border and shall meet the intent of the site plan drawings.
2)Campsite areas shall not to exceed 1.8% slopes (average campsite area is approximate 800 sf).
3)The finished surface of campsite areas shall be decomposed granite 6" thick and shall extend 2' beyond camp site boundary.
4)Decomposed granite of camping area surface to be flush with concrete parking pad height.
5)Site drainage shall follow existing drainage patterns. Drainage shall not be conveyed through the new sites.
6)Campsite border shall be pressure treated 6x6 wood. This wood shall be brown in color and shall not be painted.
7)Campsite borders shall be anchored with 4' #4 rebar on 4' centers and 6" from any end.
8)Campsite borders shall have drainage slots for rain run off. Slots shall be 1-1/2" high and 3-1/2" wide located on 8' centers and 9" from any end.
9)Campsite borders shall be lagged on all corners with a 5/16" by 4" lag screw. All corners shall be cut at 45 degrees for flush connection.
10)Campsites shall have one raised tent pad that is 12' by 12' and between 17" and 19" in height. Pads shall be constructed with 6x6 pressure treated brown wood.
11)Tent pad borders shall have 4' pressure treated stakes at 4' center on the inside perimeter and lagged to the 6x6 boards.
12)Tent pad borders shall be secured on all corners with a 5/16" by 4" lag screw. All corners shall be cut at 45 degrees for flush connection.
13)Tent pad surface shall be decomposed granite 6" thick and flush with the top of the 6x6 boards. The surface shall not exceed 1.8% in slope.
14)A 4' clear space around the tent pad is required.
15)A concrete accessible parking space shall be provided. The parking spaces will range from 16' (min. required a van accessible space) to 20' (min. required for a RV space) in width and will be between 20' and 60' in length.
16)Slopes with in the parking area shall not exceed 1.8%. The driveway section of the parking stall shall not exceed a 4.75% running slope unless site grading can be reduced by using a steeper slope. Where site grading can be minimized slope not more than 8.0% may be used. Cross slopes shall not exceed 1.8%.
17)Parking spaces shall be 6" concrete with ¾" aggregate. The concrete shall be 4000 psi and must have #3 rebar in a grid pattern with 18" center spacing. The rebar shall be 2" clear from the top or bottom surface.
18)Earthwork operations shall be minimized. Soil generated from campsite and pad installation may be used where fill and catch-slope grading is required. Fill shall be compacted in 6" lifts.
19)Any excessive top soil may be hauled and stockpiled at Pohono Pit.
20)All excess material and debris shall be removed from the park.
21)Install government owned picnic table, cooking/fire grill and bear food storage locker per accessibility guidelines and manufacturer recommendations.
22)The fire grill concrete foundation size shall be 2' wide by 16" deep by 8" high.
23)The table tie down footing shall be concrete at 8" in diameter and 16" deep with a ¼" chain 6' long.
24)The bear box footings pads shall be concrete at 37" wide by 12" deep by 4" thick with two 1/2" bolts. Bolt spacing shall match government provided bear boxes.
25)2 concrete wheel stops shall be place at the back of each accessible parking space. Wheel stops shall be 3' long, 6" high, and 6" deep. Each wheel stop shall be mounted with 2 #4 rebar stakes not less than 3' in length.
26)Concrete shall be colored to match existing surroundings
