Snipe Lake Cabin Repair
Lake Clark National Park & Preserve » Snipe Lake Cabin Repair
The Wills cabin on Snipe Lake is a mid-20th century trapping cabin that suffers extensive decay due to weather and animals. The cabin was determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 and is being considered for listing in the List of Classified Structures. This project proposes to rehabilitate the cabin for continued use as an administrative cabin. All work will be conducted under the supervision of a historical architect. Repairs to the cabin will include replacing all or portions of some wall logs, the ridgepole and perlons, replacing the roof, windows and door, and building a wood floor.
Spruce logs will be cut from a spruce stand 1.1 km SW and towed to the site via snowmachine when snowcover is adequate to avoid damage to the ground cover. Approximately 25 logs 6-10" in diameter will be needed for the walls and ridgepole. This timber will come from a closed stand of spruce on the SW side of the lake.
