H-114 was re-built in 1981 due to a structural fire. At that time, the original fireplace was included in the rebuild however, was inoperable due to chimney failure and eventually covered with wallboard & dry wall. DNC performed an on site visit with Sueann Brown, NPS HAL Branch, on February 8th to view the structure and discuss the project in terms historic preservation issues. Based on the site visit, Ms. Brown notified DNC that there were no historic preservation concerns with project as discussed during the field visit.

Scope of Work: (Attach supplemental documentation as needed. Detail to match project complexity. List work elements and tasks to be completed. A/E fee proposals acceptable.) (For small projects, prepared by "in-house" project team. Prepared by project team in discussion with consultant/s or solely by consultant submitting a proposal or an assessment document for complex projects.)


Basic Scope of Work includes:

" Remove all floor coverings and replace with new;
" Remove track lighting and install new;
" Adjust all doors to proper operating conditions (repair screens, re-hang as needed);
" Remove drapery valances in living room;
" Install new doors on coat closet in the living room;
" Restore all windows to proper operation (new screens, repair cranks);
" Remove and replace all kitchen cabinets & appliances with new;
" Repair wall texture throughout (remove nails, hooks & repair);
" *Remove wall coverings in front of fireplace;
" Repair fireplace mantel and hearth;
" Install a propane fired stove and flu liner at fireplace;
" Paint complete interior.

*Contractor will remove wall covering and framing to expose the fireplace and hearth area. Repairs to the hearth and face will be made with like materials as necessary. Walls, ceilings and floors will be repaired as necessary. A stove insert will be installed with a flue liner pipe to ensure safe and proper operation. Sueann Brown has reviewed this aspect of the project and informed DNC that there are no historic preservation issues with the remodel or fireplace refurbishment.
