Construct Park Entrance Signs & Parking

Craters Of The Moon National Monument & Preserve » Construct Park Entrance Signs & Parking » Document List

Superintendent Doug Neighbor has initiated a public scoping period for the proposed construction of new entrance signs for Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. The National Park Service is proposing to construct new roadside entrance signs and pullouts at two locations as well as to place additional directional signs along U.S. Highway 20/26/93 between the towns of Arco and Carey, Idaho. The entrance signs will mark the expanded boundary of Craters of the Moon National Preserve and the overall Monument for both east and west bound travellers. The public is invited to provide comments on the proposal.

These signs will welcome visitors as they arrive, providing a gateway that marks the beginning of their Craters of the Moon experience. Access will be provided to the signs so that visitors may practice the time-honored tradition of taking a family photograph of the entrance sign at a scenic location.
The signs have been designed in close collaboration with our partner agency the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to represent not only a unit of the National Park System but also a unit of the BLM's National Landscape Conservation System.

An Environmental Assessment (EA) is being developed to consider alternative actions for this project and to identify impacts on Monument resources.
