Crane Flat Telnps Satellite Dish Installation

Yosemite National Park » Crane Flat Telnps Satellite Dish Installation » Document List

To increase staff training opportunities, the Division of Visitor Protection plans to install a TelNPS satellite receiver in the training room at the Crane Flat Ranger Office. Since the NPS and our training partner, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center are using satellite technology more and more each year to provide training to the field, it is important that we have access to the training material. Providing the satellite content locally in the outlying districts allows the emergency services staff to remain in their work place which benefits the park in providing visitor and resource protection.

This satellite receiver requires that an antenna be installed by pole mount. This requires a 1'x3' deep hole to be dug in order to secure the pole. The location of the pole will be in one of two designated areas near the Crane Flat RO. Both sites were identified to allow the proper view of the southern sky. The primary location to install the pole will be just north of the ranger office about 100' from the building. This will require a 18" deep, hand dug, trench in order to properly bury the cable from the pole to the building. A small diameter hole will be drilled to run the cable into the ranger office.

The backup site for the pole mount will be about 250' north east of the ranger office. This site will only be used if the primary site does not have a sufficient angle to receive from the satellite. This site will require a 250' hand dug trench.

Both sites will have the trench run along the existing asphalt roadway to the ranger office. In this case, a 1.5 meter round gray plastic satellite dish will be installed a pole.
