Proposed increase to entrance fees

Shenandoah National Park is proposing to increase the vehicle entrance fee in 2006 from $10 to $15 from March 1 to November 30. A motorcycle will be charged $10 for an individual rider and $15 for multiple riders. During the winter months (December to February) vehicle entrance fees will remain at $10 per vehicle and a motorcycle will be charged at $5 for an individual rider and $10 for multiple riders. This would be the first time the park’s vehicle entrance fee has been increased in nine years.
Superintendent Cartwright stated “The fee program is critical to the park. Eighty percent of the fees collected stay in the park and go directly into improving facilities and providing services that are important to visitors. For example, fee revenue at Shenandoah is currently financing projects such as the rehabilitation and renovation of Bryd Visitor Center, including installation new exhibits.”
The individual entrance fee for pedestrians, bicyclists, or members of non-commercial, organized groups would be $8 per person.
The price of the Shenandoah Annual Park Pass would remain unchanged and for $30 is an exceptional value. This annual pass is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. This annual park pass rate was increased in 2005. The Shenandoah Annual Park Pass is available for purchase at any of the park’s entrance stations.
The commercial tour fees for 2006 will not be raised.
