The National Park Service at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore announces the availability of the Port Oneida Rural Historic District Environmental Assessment beginning on September 17, 2007. The environmental assessment (EA) describes and analyzes alternative locations for a visitor contact station and employee housing, and alternative means of improving visitor access, and interpretation of Port Oneida resources. In all alternatives rehabilitation and stabilization of historic structures, and stabilization of cultural landscapes occur at Port Oneida.
The National Park Service at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore encourages you to comment on the EA until October 19, 2007. Comments may be mailed to the Lakeshore (Superintendent, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, 9922 Front Street, Empire, MI 49630), or electronic comments may be made by accessing the Lakeshore's website at www.nps.gov/slbe.
The Lakeshore will be hosting an open house on the EA on Wednesday, October 3. The open house will be held at the Lakeshore's Visitor Center auditorium in Empire, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., and will include a presentation by the contracting firm, JJR of Ann Arbor, at 5:00 p.m.
