Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » 2026 - Repairs to seasonal housing - Davis House
Milepost 14.38: The Davis House is a one-story Rancher built for the Army Corps of Engineers by the NPS in the 1950s. The house is located around mile 14.38, upslope of the Great Falls Tavern, and is one of two initially intended to support the operation of the Washington Aqueduct. The house was transferred to the NPS as surplus to ACOE's needs and has subsequently been used for staff housing, as necessary. This house is listed in the National Register as a non-contributing feature of the park's Historic District; as such, it does not significantly contribute to the history of the park. It is also not contributing to the Washington Aqueduct Historic District either, being outside the period of significance. The house is ineligible for individual listing on the National Register given its lack of significance to Criterion A, B, and C.
The park plans to complete minor repairs to the building to facilitate its continued use and preservation. Work will include repairs such as gutter repairs, window repairs, minor bathroom rehabilitation, and painting, among other tasks. Work will not affect visitor use or significant historic features of the park.
