Fort Darling Landfill CERCLA Actions (EE/CA Addendum)

The National Park Service recently completed an Addendum to its 2015 Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) for the Fort Darling landfill that exists on park property at the park's Drewry's Bluff unit. The county landfill was closed in 1972 and donated to the park in 1975. Since that time numerous investigations have been conducted due to concerns over the appearance of the adjacent stream and groundwater seeps. These culminated in the EE/CA, a requirement of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). However, since additional degradation and instability were discovered at the site after the EE/CA was published, an Addendum was created. This document, which discusses the investigations and potential remediation options, will be open for public comment for 30 days starting the first week of November.
