Special Use Permit Application Fee Implementation

Rock Creek Park » Special Use Permit Application Fee Implementation » Document List

Rock Creek Park is seeking public input on a new proposed application fee for organizations and persons seeking Special Use Permits for construction and other activities that require access to the park. The public is invited to review the plans and submit comments from July 20 through August 19, 2023 on the proposal, which is being considered to better fulfill park requirements for cost-effective operations.

While most national parks in the Washington, D.C., area have an established application fee for construction and other activities requiring park access, Rock Creek Park has yet to put one in place. To be consistent with other area national parks and national policy, Rock Creek Park is considering an application fee of $250. This proposal does not apply to activities such as research permits, use of picnic areas, special events or other permitted activities under Chapter 36, Section 7.96 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

The park also plans to more strictly enforce existing National Park Service cost recovery policies for construction and other park land access permit activity that require NPS staff time and permit monitoring.

Rock Creek Park is planning to implement the proposed application fee beginning October 1, 2023.

Public participation is vital to the planning process. You are invited to provide comments on this proposal through August 19, 2023.
