The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to construct a new consolidated science facility to house the South Florida Natural Resources Center (SFNRC), South Florida/Caribbean Inventory & Monitoring Network (SFCN), and Florida/Caribbean Invasive Plant Management Team (FLC IPMT) within Everglades National Park (EVER). The new facility would serve the missions of these programs for the next 50 years and beyond. The new consolidated facility would offer a safe and secure work environment designed to meet the needs of a highly specialized technical staff and their associated equipment. This new consolidated facility would be designed to better meet the current needs of the various technical teams, offer flexibility, accommodate anticipated growth, and support the continued evolution of these institutions and the modern work environment.

Designed to meet the needs of the modern NPS office, the new consolidated science facility would ensure a secure environment for employees, cooperators, and partners while significantly reducing the risks of theft, vandalism, and damage to government property. The facility would provide a space tailored to the needs of a highly specialized technical workforce, accounting for the evolving demands of the modern workplace. It would offer long-term cost savings, be resilient against hurricanes and fire threats and maintain operations using generator power during frequent and unpredictable commercial outages.

As part of this civic engagement process, we are inviting public input on issues and opportunities related to the proposed project through March 20. Information about the proposal is provided in an ArcGIS StoryMap, which is available at parkplanning.nps.gov/EVER-science-facility.
