Environmental analysis for funding the Klamath River Rural Broadband Initiative (KRRBI) project has been completed and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) has been released.
Redwood National Park (REDW) became a cooperating agency in the Klamath River Rural Broadband Initiative (KRRBI) project in 2015. 17.1 miles of cable will pass through National Park Service (NPS)-owned property that underlies the Humboldt County easement for Bald Hills Road through REDW. The project is a joint collaboration between the Karuk Tribe and the Yurok Tribe and will install 104.1 miles of both underground and overhead middle-mile5 broadband fiber optic cable which will provide high-speed internet service to communities in an area of approximately 80 square miles in rural northern Humboldt County. The cable will serve tribal and non-tribal people living in the ancestral territories of the Karuk and Yurok Tribes who are presently unserved or underserved by current broadband.
The Klamath River Rural Broadband Initiative Final Mitigated Negative Declaration/Environmental Assessment, which includes the Initial Study Mitigated Negative Declaration/Environmental Assessment (ISMND/EA) was created by the California Public Utilities Commission and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
