Please join park staff and other planners in a workshop devoted to collecting ideas for the development of a Commercial Services Strategy (CSS) which will serve as a major component of the River Management Plan.

Description:
The CSS will be designed to 1) protect resources; 2) provide for a quality visitor experience; and 3) protect the interests of those providing visitor services within this National Park Site. This workshop is primarily directed at a broad range of local businesses-- particularly, but not exclusively, those which provide on-river services. As the success of a diverse array of businesses is closely tied to river recreation, this workshop should be of interest to operators of restaurants, motels, gas stations, and many others as well. Any member of the public is welcome to this meeting. Sign in will begin at 1:00pm and the meeting will begin promptly at 2:00pm. Written comments may be hand delivered at the meeting, mailed to the park headquarters address, or entered online through this website (click on the "Open for Comment" link located on the left side of this page). Comments will be most helpful if submitted by May 31, 2012.

Please join park staff and other planners in a workshop devoted to collecting ideas for the development of a River Management Plan (RMP/EA) for the Niobrara National Scenic River.

Description:
The goals of the RMP/EA are to 1) review the outstandingly remarkable values (ORVs), free-flowing condition and water quality; 2) refine desired future conditions of the ORVs; 3) establish guidelines to manage and protect the ORVs; 4) define zones of visitor use and appropriate activities within those zones; and 5) establish limits of acceptable change from human use of Niobrara National Scenic River resources and suggest appropriate actions to mitigate impacts from previous human use. This workshop is directed toward all members of the public. It will include short presentations by park and other National Park Service staff and small group discussions focused on identifying issues associated with the preservation of the park's outstandingly remarkable values. Attendees are strongly encouraged to prepare for the meeting ahead of time by reading the Outstandingly Remarkable Values (ORV) Workshop Report, which is linked to this website. Attendees should come prepared to discuss river management planning with respect to positive and negative impacts to the ORVs, how impacts can be monitored, how the impacts can be mitigated or improved, as appropriate, and what "zones" of use might look like, to protect ORVs.
