Great Sand Dunes NP&P Ungulate Management Plan Abbreviated Final EIS

On April 23, 2018, the National Park Service released the Ungulate Management Plan Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for a public comment period that ended on May 31, 2018. The DEIS is available by clicking on the 'Document List' link on the left side of this website.

During the comment period, the NPS received 24 letters, which resulted in limited, factual changes to the Draft EIS. As a result, the NPS prepared an Abbreviated Final EIS (FEIS) consistent with provisions at 40 CFR 1503.4(c) and guidance on page 67 of the NPS NEPA Handbook.

Per the regulations and guidance, the Abbreviated FEIS includes a cover sheet, an explanation of what the abbreviated FEIS contains, substantive comments received, comment responses, and errata sheets capturing changes made to the DEIS.

The release of Abbreviated FEIS and publication of the EPA Notice of Availability (NOA) on June 28, 2019 will be followed by a 30-day "no action," and the NPS will not sign a ROD until at least 30 days after publication of the EPA NOA.
