Public Scoping Comment Summary

On October 28, 2011, the National Park Service (NPS) released the Public Scoping Newsletter for the Great Sand Dunes National Park Ungulate Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement to the public for review and comment. The newsletter included a description of the purpose and need, project description and background, project objectives, and a list of issues and impact topics. The public scoping period was open through January 6, 2012.

During the scoping period, two public meetings were hosted in regional gateway communities. NPS staff members were on hand to visit with meeting attendees and to answer questions.

Members of the public and organizations were able to submit their comments on the project using any of the following methods:
1. On written comment forms at the public meetings;
2. Electronically through this Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website;
3. By mailing comments to the Park; and
4. By emailing comments to the Park.

All comments, regardless of their topic, were carefully read and analyzed and are presented in the Public Scoping Comment Report, which may be downloaded below.

The report contains an introduction, some statistical comment analysis, concern statements, and a selection of representative quotes from individuals and organizations.
