Logan Pass Improvements Plan/Environmental Assessment

Glacier National Park's Logan Pass Improvements Plan/Environmental Assessment is now available online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/parkHome.cfm?parkId=61. This will be available for public review for 30 days. Comments are due on March 13, 2009.

Glacier National Park proposes to address a number of issues at Logan Pass. The existing restrooms are in poor condition and do not provide enough capacity. The shuttle stop in front of the visitor center is poorly located and has resulted in congestion and confusion. The visitor center electrical power comes from an outdated system that is at risk of permanent failure and cannot be repaired. Additional energy is needed for visitor services, park operations, security, communications and the shuttle system.

The Plan proposes to rehabilitate and update the existing restrooms and construct an additional restroom building adjacent to the parking lot that would remain open during the shoulder season. It proposes to replace the power system and provide additional energy for radio, security, transit system and a new location for the shuttle stop. A no action alternative and three action alternatives are included in this EA
