McDonald Creek Bank Stabilization at MP 19.25 on the GTSR
Posted for public review and comment is the McDonald Creek Bank Stabilization (EA) and Statement of Findings. At milepost 19.25 (MP 19.25) the bank of McDonald Creek slumped and repair involved the installation of "soil nails" which were used to stabilize unconsolidated soils along the bank. This was a temporary action to keep the road open to visitor traffic and protect the historic GTSR.
This EA evaluates three alternatives including a no action, the alternatives address factors associated with bank stabilization such as erosion and sedimentation, bull trout rearing habitat, protecting the historic GTSR, and stream hydraulics. The preferred alternative would stabilize the bank by using rock riprap revetment and armor the toe of the bank. Native and suitable vegetation would be incorporated into the riprap above high water mark.
