Transportation Scenario Planning Pilot Workshop #1
NCR is beginning work on its initial long-range transportation plan (LRTP), which kicked-off existing conditions research in October 2015. In advance of the start of major LRTP development activities in February 2016, NCR will be examining possible futures in which LRTP decisions could be relevant through a scenario planning pilot.
The pilot will consist of a series of three workshops (two in-person; one virtual), during which potential driving factors will be identified, refined, and developed into a limited set (1-3) of possible combinations upon which to develop future scenarios. Internal and external stakeholder input will be essential to the development of meaningful scenarios, which will be narratives about possible futures resulting from combinations of driving factors.
The results of the scenario planning pilot will inform the development of the NCR LRTP, including objectives, strategies, and performance measures.
The purpose of workshop #1 is to gather information about relevant internal and external planning efforts and to develop potential driving factors to be considered for scenario development. Internal and external stakeholders will be invited to share work their organizations have done and to participate in the initial brainstorm activities. A combination of interactive exercises and facilitated discussion will be used to explore potential driving factors and consider their relevant importance to the NCR LRTP and their relative suitability for exploration in a scenario planning context.
The goals of workshop#1 were to:
1. Share information from internal and external stakeholders from relevant plans or research
2. Brainstorm potential driving factors for scenario development
3. Begin refining and ranking potential driving factors
