Environmental Assessment for Landscape Rehabilitation

As part of the planning process intended to support decisions regarding management of the park, NPS has prepared a Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) for Vicksburg NMP. The CLR is intended to provide NPS with an assessment of the character-defining features of the Vicksburg NMP landscape, document historic and existing conditions, and develop specific treatment recommendations to ensure the future protection of the park and its natural and cultural resources. This Environmental Assessment (EA) analyzes the Preferred Alternative and the other proposed alternatives in the CLR and their impacts on the environment. The EA seeks to provide a clear direction to manage the landscape in ways that commemorate the campaign, siege, and defense of Vicksburg, as required by Congress, by preserving resources and enhancing visitor understanding and appreciation of the events that occurred here while providing a variety of experiences and complying with other laws and regulations.
