Improvements to Concession Facilities Environmental Assessment

The National Park Service (NPS) has made available for public and regulatory review the Environmental Assessment (EA) for Improvements to Concession Facilities. Park concession facilities are an integral component of visitor services at Mammoth Cave. The improvements will meet current visitor needs, provide the concessioner an opportunity to profit, meet current safety standards, building codes, and NPS directives, including energy efficiency and sustainability, and result in the best value to the government.

The document presents and assesses the impacts associated with two alternatives for the hotel/concession facilities: a no action alternative, in which the existing hotel/concession operations would continue under the current conditions and infrastructure; and an action alternative, where hotel/concession improvements would be completed, including renovation of the Hotel Lodge, rehabilitation of the Sunset Terrace Lodge buildings, replacement of mechanical systems, removal of the Heritage Trail wing, and additional parking and circulation enhancements which would improve the management and infrastructure of Mammoth Cave Hotel.

An open house at the Mammoth Cave Hotel is scheduled on December 12, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm to provide the public and interested agencies and organizations an opportunity to learn about the proposed project. The public is invited to visit at any point during the scheduled time to review materials.
