Environmental Assessment and Assessment of Effect Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Fire Management Plan

The National Park Service (NPS) is considering actions at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve (park) to manage wildland fire and use prescribed fire. This environmental assessment and assessment of effect describes the effects of the proposed project on the human environment and provides an opportunity for the public to comment. The document presents two alternatives: a no action alternative and a proposal to update the park's fire management plan. The purpose of the update is to incorporate approximately 3,000 acres of land acquired in 2009 and to add the use of prescribed fire to further resource management objectives at the Barataria Preserve and the Chalmette Battlefield units.

The park is inviting written public comments regarding the document and the proposed alternatives. Comments are requested by the end of the public scoping period on Thursday, September 15, 2015. Your written comments can be submitted through this website.
