Sochan Gathering for Traditional Purposes FONSI and General Agreement


The Regional Director, Southeast Region, National Park Service signed a Finding of No Significant Impact for Sochan Gathering for Traditional Purposes on February 27, 2019. Alternative B (Proposed Action and Preferred Alternative) - sochan gathering for traditional purposes in limited areas of Great Smoky Mountains National Park was the selected alternative. Approval of the Finding of No Significant Impact allowed Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to enter a General Agreement for gathering leaves from the sochan plant in the Park. The General Agreement was signed March 25, 2019.
