Draft Environmental Assessment, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Fire Management Plan

The National Park Service (NPS) is considering actions at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (park) to manage wildland fire and use prescribed fire. This environmental assessment describes the effects of the proposed project on the human environment and provides an opportunity for the public to comment. The document presents two alternatives: a no action alternative and a proposal to revise the park's fire management plan, last updated in 2004. The purpose of the revision is to allow for the management of wildland fire for multiple objectives, including resource benefits, in appropriate zones within the park and to incorporate approximately 4,000 acres of land acquired by the park since 2008.

The park is inviting written public comments regarding the document and the proposed alternatives. Comments are requested by the end of the public scoping period on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. Your written comments can be submitted through this website.
