Finding of No Significant Impact - Wilderness and Backcountry Management Plan/EA

The National Park Service announces the availability of the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park-Curecanti National Recreation Area Wilderness and Backcountry Management Plan/Environmental Assessment (plan/EA). The FONSI, signed by the NPS regional director for Interior Regions 6, 7, and 8 on December 13, 2022, describes the final decision of the National Park Service. Attachments include the response to public comments, the errata prepared to update the EA, and the non-impairment determination.

The FONSI is based on the plan/EA, as well as the comments received from the public, other stakeholders, agencies, and staff during the public review period that concluded. The FONSI summarizes the public comments received, responds to those comments, and identifies changes to the text in the plan/EA as a result of the comments. The stand-alone backcountry and wilderness management plan with updated language reflecting NPS responses to public comments is being prepared. The public will be notified via press release and social media when the final version of the plan is available on this website.
