Trail Development Plan - Phase One / FONSI

The National Park Service selected Alternative B (the Trail Development Alternative) of the Trail Development Plan/Environmental Assessment for implementation and prepared a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). The FONSI describes the alternatives considered, the alternative selected for implementation, and the rationale used to make the selection. The FONSI also describes the mitigation measures that will be taken to ensure the protection of natural and cultural resources and the quality of the visitor experience at New River Gorge National River.

Alternative B (the Trail Development Alternative) will develop several trail segments of the Through Park Connector and outside links and will implement park protocols for current and future trail design and construction to avoid and minimize adverse impacts to the park's natural and cultural resources. The Trail Development Alternative will also develop a trail connection to a climbing area, consistent with the approved General Management Plan.
