Draft Programmatic Agreement

Many of the landscapes, buildings, and monuments that the park will repair over the next several years are historic. Some were standing at the time of the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The work proposed is outlined in the project development plan attached. The data sheet shows which buildings, sites and monuments are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a list of the nation's most historic properties.

Because NPS is obligated to treat properties listed on the National Register with care, the park worked with the Massachusetts State Historic Preservation Officer, federally recognized tribes, and others to develop a draft a programmatic agreement (PA). This PA sets out a process for us to follow as we design and implement all of the individual projects in the strategic development plan. Our goal is to avoid, minimize or mitigate adverse effects to historic buildings, landscapes, archeological sites, and structures or monuments that may result of the work that we will undertake.

You are invited to comment on the draft PA as part of the public process outlined in the regulations for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (36 CFR 800). Your comments will be taken into account as we finalize the PA. You may comment through PEPC or via mail at the address listed below. The comment period will run for 30 days from August 20 through September 19.
