Replace Dispatch Center Environmental Assessment

The National Park Service (NPS) has prepared an Envirornnental Assessment (EA) to evaluate a
range of alternatives for a new dispatch center at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island. The new
dispatch center would have the capacity to support the dispatch functions of Gateway National
Recreation Area, the US Park Police and potentially the Statue of Liberty National Monument.
The proposed site is in Building 210, with an accompanying 100-foot, free-standing radio tower
and back-up generator.

The new dispatch center is needed because Hurricane Sandy destroyed Gateway's Dispatch
Center that was located at Sandy Hook. A temporary dispatch center was relocated to higher
ground at Fort Wadsworth in Building 220, but it is inadequate for long-term use. A secured
location with updated systems is needed. The US Park Police also need a resilient dispatch center
because their current location at Floyd Bennett Field, while unharmed by Hurricane Sandy, may
be vulnerable to future storms. Consolidating park dispatch functions with the US Park Police
will allow more efficient operations during emergency events.

The participation of the public is important to the success of this project. The EA will be
