DEWA VUM Summer Update

Dear Friend of the Park,

I am writing to inform you that the draft visitor use management plan (VUM Plan) and environmental impact statement (EIS) should be released for public review this winter and I look forward to your comments on the document. This plan evaluates the future of visitor use at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to maximize the ability of the National Park Service to encourage access and protect the park's natural and cultural resources.

The goals of this plan are to minimize impacts to resources and visitor experiences caused by visitor use while enhancing opportunities for the park's key visitor experiences. Additionally this plan assesses the appropriateness of current and new/evolving visitor opportunities while considering visitor safety and resource protection and economic strategies to support each alternative. Our goal is to align public expectations for use with availability of resources or
infrastructure while managing visitor demand and expectations at popular destinations.

The VUM Plan /EIS should be released for public review later this fall/winter, and I look forward to your comments on the document. The document will be available at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/DEWAVUMPlan. Documents and information from previous public input sessions related to this plan can also be found at this location. As always, thank you for your continued interest in and support for Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Sincerely,
John J. Donahue, Superintendent
