Metropolitan Branch Trail

The Metropolitan Branch Trail (MBT) is a proposed 8-mile multi-use trail that runs from the Silver Spring Metro Station in Maryland to Union Station in the District of Columbia, generally following the path of the Metro's Red Line. The MBT will help to complete a regional network of trails by joining the Capital Crescent Trail in Silver Spring, the National Mall near Union Station. In addition, the
proposed spur of the MBT running east from the area of Fort Totten will form a link in the East Coast Greenway network of trails. Some portions of the MBT have already been completed in other areas of the city. This Environmental Assessment explores alternatives for trail alignments on or near portions of land managed by the National Park Service (Rock Creek Park), specifically in the vicinity of Fort Totten. Fort Totten is one of nineteen sites managed by the National Park Service as a component of the historic network of Civil War Defenses of Washington.

The comment period is closed. The DC Department of Transportation and National Park Service are reviewing the comments. The final Environmental Assessment should be out Summer of 2011.
