Public Comment on Conceptual Plans

The NPS invites public review and comment on the draft conceptual plans for the relocation of the park's headquarters to the former Miller Lumber Company site. The site is located in the Williamsport Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Five structures within the property are listed as contributing to the historic district, including the buildings associated with the Miller Lumber Company, Inc. that front Potomac Street.

Option A will include a 2-story structure that will house both a new visitor center and administrative offices. The building will front Potomac Street and will curve behind the existing historic structures that face the street. The historic planing mill and all modern structures and components will be removed. The historic Cline house facing Potomac Street will remain and the Malott House on Salisbury Street will be removed. Remaining historic structures will be stabilized. The facility will comprise approximately 100 parking spaces with vehicle entry/exit points on Potomac and Salisbury Streets.

Option B includes a new visitor center facility that fronts Potomac Street, adjacent to the existing historic buildings. A separate building that houses administrative offices will be oriented behind the Potomac Street buildings and adjacent to the historic planing mill. The modern structures and components associated with the current Miller Lumber facility will be removed. The historic Cline house facing Potomac Street will remain and the Malott House on Salisbury Street will be removed. Remaining historic structures will be stabilized. The facility will comprise approximately 100 parking spaces with vehicle entry/exit points on Potomac and Salisbury Streets.
