An image of the cover of the Cahokia Mounds Reconnaissance Survey, dated December 2016. On the cover is an aerial image of Monks Mound, the largest earthen mound in North America, covered in grass in the morning sunlight. The stairs and path to the top of the mound are visible. In the foreground, a small part of Colinsville Road is visible, and behind the mound, beyond a stand of trees, Interstate 55/70 is visible.

Cahokia Mounds Reconnaissance Survey

This reconnaissance survey is a preliminary resource assessment of the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site and associated Mississippian mound groups in the St. Louis metropolitan area of Illinois and Missouri. The conclusions are not final or definitive - the survey provides a cursory review and analysis of available information to determine whether a special resource study is warranted.
