Church in the Valley Land Transfer Environmental Assessment

The Church in the Valley (CIV) has requested the use/transfer of National Park Service (NPS) land in Cuyahoga Valley National Park to provide parking and sanitary facilities needed to support a planned church addition. The existing church property is small and surrounded by NPS land. The church has sufficient land for the addition construction but lacks sufficient land to construct the needed parking lot and sanitary system. The NPS is considering a land exchange with the church whereby 4.28 acres of NPS land behind the church would be transferred to the CIV in exchange for a historic preservation easement over the historic church property (in addition to whatever funds are necessary to ensure an equal exchange). A restrictive covenant, held by the NPS, will protect natural and cultural resources on the 4.28 acre parcel while the preservation easement over the church building and property will provide long-term protection of the historic property.

An environmental assessment (EA) was prepared to analyze the alternatives and assess the impacts of granting this request.
