Public Comment on Site Selection for National EMS Memorial
The National Park Service (NPS) and the National Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Memorial Foundation are accepting public comments on potential future sites for the proposed National Emergency Medical Services Memorial through Dec. 14, 2019.
Three locations within the District of Columbia have been identified for consideration as a site for the memorial:
1. Site L at the intersection of Massachusetts and New Jersey avenues at G Street NW
2. Site U adjacent to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services building at 3rd Street and Independence Avenue SW
3. Site W at Maryland and Virginia avenues, SW (Hancock Park between 7th and 9th streets).
Sites L and W are administered by the National Park Service. Site U is administered by the General Services Administration.
The National EMS Memorial Foundation was authorized by Congress (PL 115-275) in 2018 to honor, recognize and remember the commitment, service and sacrifice of the nation's EMS heroes who have died in the line of duty and those who continue to serve. The EMS Memorial Foundation will design and construct the memorial at the selected location. The NPS may be responsible for its long-term maintenance following the dedication.
