Lake Mead NRA Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Resurfacing on the Historic Railroad Trail
The National Park Service is seeking public comment on a project to stabilize and resurface the Historic Railroad Trail.
The former railroad grade provides panoramic views of Lake Mead, overlooking the Boulder Beach area, as well as many opportunities for visitors to see the railroad route that ran from Boulder City to Hoover Dam from 1931 to 1961. The project will preserve this cultural resource for future generations to discover and enjoy.
The work will consist of placing aggregate base material on grade and compacting and leveling the surface. The work will also include adding riprap where appropriate to fill in and prevent further erosion and damage to the trail. This project will improve approximately two miles of the Historic Railroad Trail that are susceptible to erosion and have drainage concerns.
The public is encouraged to comment on the proposed project. Feedback will be accepted through Sept. 19 both online and via U. S. Mail at: Lake Mead National Recreation Area Superintendent, Attention: Proposed Trail Resurfacing, 601 Nevada Way, Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
