Proposal to Increase Entrance Fee

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is seeking public input on a proposal to increase the entrance fee into Point Park in 2015.

Currently, visitors pay $3 per person to enter Point Park for a single day or they can purchase an annual pass costing $20. These rates have been constant since 2002.

The park is proposing to offer a 7 day pass for a single person costing $7. The Point Park annual pass would increase to $30 and entitles the pass-holder and three others unlimited visits for one year from the time of purchase.

Entrance fees are not charged for persons under 16 years of age or for visitors who have obtained any of the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes. The rates will remain the same on all of these passes: Interagency Annual Pass, $80; Annual Pass for U.S. Military, free; Senior Pass, $10 lifetime pass; and the Access Pass for handicapped, free. These passes are available at either the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center or the Lookout Mountain Visitor Center.

Under current legislation, 80 percent of the revenue from the entrance fees is allowed to remain in the park and is used on projects which benefit park visitors. Past projects have included the rehabilitation of the Lookout Mountain Visitor Center and its exhibits; installing new exhibits in the Ochs Museum; producing our visitor film - Death Knell of the Confederacy; and installing wayside exhibits on Orchard Knob. In 2015, the park will used these funds to conduct preservation work on the New York Peace Monument which is located inside Point Park. Future projects also include landscape restoration, view-shed improvement, monument rehabilitation and trail maintenance.
